  4. Help others in need

Step it up… beyond the holidays

Better yet, what if you even made that your New Year’s Resolution? Over time this could become your standard of living. The “athletic mindset” book and training encourages this for daily a practice. And no, you don’t have to be an athlete to have the athletic mindset. You just have to think like one! [Hint: Ask for the ballJ]

More than any other time of year, the holiday season is when most people want to do the right thing. Why not carry that thought throughout the year? We invite you to be a better role model and mentor as your “holiday gift to others.”

This holiday gift costs nothing. Just start with some simple steps:

  • Be gracious and humble to others, even in trying times.
  • Think before your re-act. Reflect upon those actions when engaging others.
  • Think with an athletic mindset – be a better mentor and role model for others.

Why take time for others?

Someone said the other day, “Linda, you seem to take more time with your employee’s than most, teaching thru stories”. My response was simply, “Stories help us recognize a lesson in our own way, rather just saying do it because I said so. As a mentor, leader, and role model, I hope to help others become a better mentor not only for themselves but for others as well.”

Even when times may be rough, the holiday spirit lives within all of us. These are simply called “acts of kindness”. As the holiday seasons rolls into full swing we encourage our readers to share their “act of kindness” on our blog. For those of you who read these stories we hope it inspires you to increase gratitude, create daily inspirations, and act on an “act of kindness” today!

As we motivationally speak, lead and mentor others to be better role models, we encourage this as a daily practice. The “athletic mindset” model incorporates this practice in one’s daily routine. Share this with others and help give the gift to someone else this holiday season and all year long. ‘Tis the season to be jolly!

This free gift will make a difference with everyone you touch.

Warm holiday wishes,

To be in a Grateful state of mind

“Feeling grateful or appreciative of someone or something in your life actually attracts more of the things that you appreciate and value into your life.”                                     –Christiane Northrup

Gratitude is in every Athletic Mindset

The Power of Gratitude is an important aspect of attracting to you the Abundance and Happiness that you desire and deserve in your life. The power of gratitude will moves mountains for you. Whatever it is you want in your life, you must first be grateful for all you have in this very moment. To create a better body, you must be grateful for the body you have now.

The most powerful Universal Law is the Law of Attraction. The energy (vibrations) that you resonate and project through your thoughts, feelings, and emotions determines your “vibrational frequency”, which attracts positive and negative to you. Feeling grateful for everything in your life right now, is a very powerful positive frequency. The events, situations, and circumstances that you attract are all by-products of the Law of Attraction, whether you are aware or not.

The athletic mindset knows having a sincere state of gratitude and energy from thoughts (vibrational resonance) is one of acceptance and harmony. You propel this energy and as a result project a much higher vibrational frequency which is what attracts to you the events, conditions, and circumstances that you desire. Are you aware of what you are thinking, saying and projecting?

Think of yourself as a giant magnet. No matter what you are feeling, whether its love, fear, anger, happiness, anger, joy, gratitude, etc. you are in essence creating a magnetic force that attracts and draws to you events, conditions and circumstances which are in direct connection to what you are feeling. Fear of something creates a magnetic force that attracts more of what you fear. Expressing Gratitude for any situation projects a magnetic force that draws to you more of what you are expressing gratitude for.

Become empowered to express sincere gratitude for whatever is currently happening in your life. You must become aware of this power to receive all this is good and right for you in complete abundance. The Law of Attraction is there (just like the Law of Gravity exists) whether you acknowledge it or not. The fact that YOU have the power to create your life on purpose!

Perception vs. Reality

What you perceive to be true, is true (for you). Your perception of something going wrong is only your perception. It is only wrong thought and wrong perceptions that are responsible for creations that show up in your life in the form of events, conditions and circumstances that you perceive as “going wrong.”

It’s important to recognize and express gratitude for the fact that EVERYTHING in your life is a vision, a creation that YOU formed in your mind that became thoughts first and into beliefs.

Here are 7 Grateful thoughts for you to consider:

1. Breathe and Say thank you! Inhale say, “thank”, and as you exhale say, “you”. Do this when you first wake up in the morning as you get out of bed. Your lungs will thank you too!

2. Be grateful for your food. Stop and really look at your food before you eat it. Take in the smells and think about all the people it took to get that food on your plate.

3. Be grateful for your pets. Look in there eyes as you pet them. Show them you are grateful for their warm nature and guidance they share with you.

4. Be grateful for your family & friends. Be present and tell them how you feel in the moment. Time is precious, we never know when it will be our last time to dance, play, sing, laugh, share a meal.

5. Be grateful you have a home and show some gratitude by keeping it tidy and clean.

6. Bless your body. Take a few deep breaths and exhale slowly, giving thanks for your health and vitality. Thank yourself for taking care of it!

7. Connect with a higher spirit. Take a few minutes each day to reflect on the fact that a power greater than you exists and is working through you.

What are you grateful for?

How can you focus on being more grateful today?

I am thankful for you reading my articles. I am grateful for the ability to convey a message of helping others through educating, enlightening and empowering. If you learned something from this article, pass it on. You’ll be grateful you did!

I hope this speaks motivationaly to you! Let me know thoughts. I’d love to hear from you.

Learning to Apply The Athletic Mindset

The power of YOUR story

#1 – Your flight from New York to California leaves at 6:00am tomorrow morning. The feeling of anxiety keeps you tossing and turning all night because you’ll fear you might miss your flight. You know this feeling well because you’ve heard often how you are always late, and you tell everyone else your fear, “I am always late and always have been.” That’s your story!

#2 – You are playing in your golf club championship this weekend. You’ve played well all season, but there’s one problem; you’ve gone through 5 putters this season and none of them feel good. You manage to get the ball in hole, but you feel nervous and fearful with every putt. This fear has taken the fun out of being on the green, the place where you score. When asked how will you play this weekend? You say, “The putter is still not working.” That’s your story!

Define your NEW story

Your story is a temporary belief that you currently believe is true. It’s time to NOW realize the story you’ve been telling to yourself, people at work and even loved one’s at home is not what you want, but IS what you you’ve been getting. Sometimes, figuring out what you don’t want, gives you the “aha” to what you do want. That’s powerful!

Wellness for work and play, mind tools and techniques

Given the choice, would you rather be just getting by, or at the top of your game? Did you know that some of the best athletes in the world like Michael Jordan and even Mohamed Ali have used mental performance tools to help them be the best in what they do? You too can have coaching tools to get the athletic mindset for increased Wellness in whatever you do.

1) Move up your Energy

All thoughts are energy. Thoughts trigger feelings which trigger emotions. Emotions are gauges that tell us we feel good or bad. When we continuously feel good or bad about something, that energy is magnetized to attract more like energy. A powerful mind tool, positive expectation, involves becoming aware of thoughts and self talk. The Athletic Mindset ‘A’ Ladder© brings Awareness to thoughts, good and bad, and teach you how to quickly move up the ladder to feel instantly better.

2) Re-Charge your batteries

Have you ever had a difficulty falling asleep? Next time, play your favorite golf course in your mind. You may not make it to the back nine. Mental practice is a way of relaxing the mind. It is drilling or rehearsing your mind for an upcoming event. When done properly, the athlete feels like they are actually at the event, performing. Randy’s 10 minute power nap is used by many in the workplace and sports to effectively recharge refresh and revive mind power to a new level.

3) Visualize it Now

Visualizing is materializing. When we give the mind pictures of what we want, the body will act upon it and allow it to happen. This mental tool involves using the “movies of your mind” to mentally see, hear and feel what you want to happen in advance. Learning to “act as if” helps create the potent placebo effect into wellness beyond the workplace.

4) Hypnotize yourself and Stretch your mind

Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls practiced daily self-hypnosis (that lead to 6 NBA Championships) to relax their mind before the game. Randy’s Mind Power Stretching® technique is a powerful tool to expand the mind-body connection. Releasing negative habits and the fear of competition, as well as getting into a zone-like state can all be facilitated through the use of self-hypnosis. Top athletes work on the mental game as much as the physical to perform better in competition, avoid choking, and learn how to stay focused for longer periods.

Who is at the Gym at 5am?

When do you workout?

I am usually at the gym between 5 and 6 am, and leave to see the sunrise. I know I need six hours of sleep so a lot depends on how early I get to bed. It’s a different world of people at that hour. Most of these early birds have the athletic mindset! How about you… do you work out on a regular basis? And if so, what time is your best work out time?

The other morning I asked a few people why they are there at that hour, and this is what they said…

Dennis, age 47 – Construction Business Owner
Q: Why are you here at 5am? And what time do you go to sleep?
A: “I’m in construction, so its the only time I can get this in. If I don’t do it know, I won’t do it. I like to get in and get out!”
If I can I’ll get to sleep by 11pm… I don’t need a lot of sleep.
Q: How long have you been working out?
A: “I started during college, so about 25 years.”
Q: Why do you work out?
A: “It feels good. And I need to stay strong in my business.”
Kim, Age 34 – Mother of two little ones
Q: Why are you here at 5am? And what time do you go to sleep?
A: “I love the energy at this hour and the people. Plus, this is MY time before the kids get up.
I like to go to sleep around 9… but not always that lucky!”
Q: How long have you been working out?
A: “I started running track in grade school. I’ve been doing weights for a few years and just working with a trainer. I love it!”
Q: Why do you work out?
A: “I have a lot of energy. It helps me stay strong for everything I do.”
.
Dennis, Age 37 – Private Invenstigator Firm
Q: Why are you here at 5am? And what time do you go to sleep?
A: “I’m in the office early to get a jump on things, so this fits my schedule the best. Besides, the people, like me just want to get in and get out. We chat a bit, but most of us are on a mission.”
I’m in bed between 9 and 10pm. I just crash getting up that early.
Q: How long have you been working out?
A: “Since age 17. I started with the basic weight bench and barbells. Weight training has come a long way since I started. I love the combination of machines and free weights.”
Q: Why do you work out?
A: “I love it. It feels good, and makes me mentally sharp for work. I’ll always work out.”

Golf and The Athletic Mindset

Golf is a game that goes way beyond the course

RF sand preShot

When most students came to me to take a golf lesson they already had a preconceived notion of what they wanted to learn. We would spend the first ten minutes (five if I cut them off) of the lesson discussing what they thought I should teach them. I often thought to myself, “Why do they think they need me if they already know all the answers?” Of course in reality they usually weren’t close to knowing what the needed to improve their golf. I guess that’s human nature to want to assist the learning process.

The non-athletic mindset is usually over-instructed!
Taking too many lessons (from different instructors) without practicing, and reading too many golf instruction (swing) articles can make anyone crazy. Then bringing that new knowledge to the course the next day to “try” to implement it may work for a day, but can’t continue unless it is ingrained for 21 days or more.

Most golfers need more mind power programming, and to just get out and play the game!
I gave most of my students lessons on the golf course. Why? Where is the game played… on the range or on the golf course? Of course you need the fundamentals, and some instruction should be on the range and especially short game area, but… get out and play! I heard a Ben Hogan quote years ago that always stuck with me. When he was asked what was his secret to success? His comment was, “You’ve got to dig it out of the ground”. Meaning, get out there and figure it out. I am not saying to spend every waking hour trying to find your game on your own. I believe what Hogan was saying, was what Mind Power really comes down to. Your conscious thoughts MUST quiet down at some point in order to play “in the zone”. Playing in the zone or on automatic pilot is when your subconscious mind takes over and frees you to get out of your own way!

When you believe a thought, it’s yours! You can always change your mind later. When it comes to playing golf, in that moment of impact, you better believe “you can” or you won’t! The moment you change your mind mid swing, you change your actions. The Law of Attraction states, “what you think about, you bring about”. Have you ever hit a 75 yard shot over water that somehow found the water instead of the green? “Now how did that happen?” you said after the fact. What do you think your thought was? If it was anything but “hit the green”, your ball was more likely seeking the water!

The subconscious mind does not judge your thoughts.
Whatever your thought was before you hit the shot you tend to believe. If the last time you missed a two foot putt you told yourself you’re an idiot, the next time you have a two-footer, your subconscious mind will remind you that you’re an idiot… kind of like an obnoxious parrot! “You’re and idiot, you’re an idiot, raahh… you missed this putt last time, you’ll miss it again, raahh!”

Be your own best cheerleader!
What would you tell your buddy if he or she missed a two foot putt? “That’s okay, you put a good roll on it” or “Wow, I thought you had that one!” Guess what? That’s the voice you need to give yourself when you miss a shot. Remember, your subconscious will respond accordingly to what you say and think. “Yeh, I did put a good roll on that”, or “hmmm, that felt like a great putt… oh well”. And next time you have that same putt, you now have a chance to make it! Get, Your Inner Swing to get the scoop on how the mental game should be helping you.

The Athletic Mindset is finding what you want, seeing it as happening and letting it happen. We all have this mindset inside of us!
