1. The Winning Smile
When you arrive at work, have a “winning” smile on your face and take 5 minutes to say “good morning” to others. It sets up the whole day, and it shows that as a leader and coach you care. Show others how happy you are to be a work. They may just surprise you, and return the favor!
2. Ask questions
When a co-worker asks you a question, stop what you are doing and listen. Thank them for asking the question. When employees feel it’s okay to ask questions, they’ll start to think outside the box. Remember to stop, and be a great listener.
3. Everyone relates to stories
Break the ice and tell a story about yourself. Story telling is a lost art, and when you share something about yourself it shows your human side. Share your “lessons learned” you gleaned along your corporate path. Encourage others to share their stories, as this encourages team playing.
4. Be a mentor
Be a straight shooter with integrity, transparency, and authenticity. Most people prefer when you are upfront and candid. Employees who know their bosses will tell them the truth, won’t listen to the “water-cooler rumors” that can stir in the employee break room. Be honest with your employees so they will want to go the extra mile.
Remember to celebrate goal attainment with your employees. It shows you are excited about their accomplishment, and value their achievements.
6. Gratitude breeds gratitude
Lastly show you are grateful for the hard work your employee’s do for the company. Most employees spend most of their day giving to the company. Be thankful for the time, productivity, and ROI they gave to everyone to help the company succeed.
